POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Technical Report Writer for our Calgary or Edmonton office to prepare high-quality technical documents that support environmental compliance, permitting, assessment, remediation, and project delivery. The ideal candidate will be able to translate complex environmental data into clear, accurate, and well-structured reports for regulatory agencies, clients, and both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, this individual will assist in project coordination for soil and groundwater assessment and remediation projects. This position can be tailored to fit the successful candidate's skills and preferences.

The position focuses on technical report writing and supporting the coordination and execution of compliance monitoring, stakeholder engagement, risk assessment, and remediation system design and implementation for a large, complex project in Edmonton. The 24-hour facility presents a variety of environmental challenges and activities. Our client takes a proactive approach to safety and environmental concerns. This complex project will challenge your methods of conducting environmental assessments and remediations. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of agrologists, hydrogeologists, geologists, engineers, and technologists dedicated to addressing our clients' ongoing environmental needs.

This role is an excellent opportunity to support high-profile, complex, multidisciplinary assessment and remediation projects. Technical, organizational, and leadership skills are key considerations for this position. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in achieving the strategic objectives for project delivery. These objectives include meeting specific technical reporting performance targets, ensuring data and deliverable quality, and fulfilling client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget. The candidate will also be responsible for meeting the expectations of the project team and field program, as well as adhering to operational performance standards and business unit goals, including health and safety regulations. The successful candidate will primarily provide office support in the following areas:

Technical Report Preparation

Technical reporting associated with large Alberta Assessment and Remediation-focused projects, including:

  • Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Groundwater/Surface Water Monitoring
  • Tier 2 and Site-Specific Risk Assessments
  • Soil Monitoring and Management Programs
  • Remedial Action Plans
  • Remediation system design and implementation
  • Risk Assessments[MM10]
  • Risk Management Plans
  • Remedial Option Analysis
  • Conceptual Site Models
  • Record of Site Conditions
  • Translate scientific and engineering data into clear, concise technical language.
  • Ensure reports comply with relevant environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers.
  • Review data tables, figures, and appendices for accuracy and clarity.
  • Maintain consistency in technical language, formatting, and style across documents.
  • Meet project deadlines while managing multiple assignments.
  • Coordinate with project managers and subject matter experts to resolve technical comments/details.
  • Support the quality assurance and peer review process.
  • Review background information, develop work scopes, and review and interpret results.
  • Prepare technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Conduct stakeholder engagement and obtain proximity and crossing agreements.
  • Work within a project team playing a key role in contaminant assessment and remediation projects.
  • Uphold Ecoventure's strong commitment to the QHSE Program.
  • Participate in Ecoventure's on-the-job training and mentorship programs.

Project Coordination

  • Manage project flow and upload documentation in the Company's ERP system.
  • Conduct subcontractor pre-qualification and management.
  • Budget/cost tracking, assist with invoicing and preparing progress reports.
  • Prepare emergency response plans and health and safety plans.
  • Conduct project coordination and logistics.
  • Act as a central point of contact for the field program.
  • Schedule field staff and subcontractors and prepare necessary fieldwork instructions.

This position will allow the successful candidate to work with a diverse and experienced team. The role offers involvement in all aspects of projects from start to finish.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess the following competencies and experience:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in an Environmental field[MM11] (Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, and Geology).
  • A member in good standing with a professional organization (APEGA, AIA, ASPB, ACPA, CAPF, ASET) recognized in Alberta.
  • 5 years of proven experience writing environmental or scientific technical reports.
  • 5 – 10 years of practical experience in the coordination and execution of assessment and remediation projects.
  • Experience with reporting on compliance and monitoring programs.
  • Strong understanding of the Regulatory framework in Alberta for assessment and remediation work and site closure, including applicable guidelines, application processes, and reporting requirements.
  • Previous experience with hand or mechanized drilling techniques and soil and groundwater sampling.
  • Experience or training courses in Alberta Tier 2, Subsoil Salinity Tool, and/or Risk Assessment are considered assets for this position.
  • Knowledge and remediation of methyl tert-butyl ether is considered an asset.
  • Current safety, H2S, First Aid and CPR, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance Level II, and a clean driving record are all assets for this position.
  • Experience and training in Project Management and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems are assets for this position.
  • Ability to conduct occasional field work would be considered an asset for this position.

  • Experienced in mentoring, supporting and advising others.
  • Solid understanding of computer programs such as Microsoft 365 and Project Operations, Adobe Acrobat, and GIS Software. Familiarity with additional software like AutoCAD, Trimble, Surfer, and Leapfrog, as well as database systems such as Siteview, Petrosight, and FieldShare, is considered an asset.
