Reporting to the Quality Supervisor, the Quality Technician is responsible for auditing the manufacturing process and the quality system to ensure that the product being produced is compliant with quality and food safety standards.

The quality technician will be a prominent representant of the quality department on the floor. This is a highly detail-oriented role, requiring excellent time management, organization, responsibility, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
What you will do

  • Inspect product quality in raw material, intermediate and finished products to reduce customer complaints and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that food safety requirements are met on the operation.
  • Investigate and document internal/external nonconforming material.
  • Maintain the nonconforming material databases for tracking internal and external nonconformities.
  • Coordinate testing of raw materials, intermediate product and finished product to ensure that the standards are met.
  • Test and assess trials and products in the lab.
  • Organize and maintain QA files such as SOPs, COAs from suppliers, quality audits, testing results etc.
  • Investigate and collect relevant information regarding internal and external nonconformities.
  • Perform appropriate inspection methods and test procedures to verify conformance to product specifications.
  • Identify and report quality problems and/or trends based on data from various sources.
  • Maintain lab inventory and supplies and clean and organize lab and work area.
  • Investigate and document internal and external nonconforming material reports such as IQI/RMA, hold area report, rejected raw material, CAR, quality alerts, and internal audit reports.
  • Interact with employees to provide information in response to inquiries about lab supplies and nonconforming material.
  • Lead internal development of Standard Operating Procedures for new processes and revisions in the production floor and the lab.
  • Collect and organize the retain samples from all the processes.
  • Maintain the retain sample database.
  • Work effectively with all departments to meet and exceed internal and external expectations.
  • Ensure that testing equipment is clean, maintained and, calibrated.
  • Document all inspections and test results in accordance with the company standards, GMP, and food safety standards.
  • Create and maintain the internal and external folders with all relevant information.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of open communication, collaboration, teamwork, continuous improvement, and compliance to TC values and code of conduct.
  • Support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment following workplace regulations, policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first aid injuries, accidents, and workplace hazards.

What you have to offer

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing/quality environment, preferably Flexible packaging.
  • Technical diploma or equivalent work experience in quality assurance / quality control or production.
  • Quality assurance and documentation experience is considered an asset.
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office programs specifically: Outlook, Word & Excel)
  • Basic math skills.
  • Bonafide physical requirements to carry out the duties of the role include; standing, walking, lifting
and carrying up to 40lbs.
