- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
- Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support
- demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments
- knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of IEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel
- demonstrated understanding of a school timetable and the ability to extensively utilize online scheduling tools such as MyEdBC
- extensive knowledge of secondary curriculum, graduation requirements and post-secondary opportunities
- demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments
- training and experience in conflict resolution and addiction protocol
- demonstrated successful Secondary School experience in school-based counselling
- experience in implementation of Career Life Education and Career Life Connections
- successful experience with Graduation Transitions and 'distributed learning'
- excellent leadership, organizational and coordination skills
- an understanding of bursary and scholarship opportunities and processes
- demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly
- demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
- willingness to assist with the leadership of the School Based Team
- proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents
- demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students
