Role Responsibilities:


The Workplace Policy and Legislation Branch is looking for results-driven and organized individuals who are eager to contribute to the development of Alberta's labour legislation.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the positions will be part of a larger team of professionals responsible for the development and maintenance of provincial labour legislation and strategic policy.

This includes employment standards legislation, labour relations legislation, occupational health and safety legislation as well as workers' compensation legislation.

The Policy and Planning Analysts will assist with the development of plans and procedures required to implement policy initiatives.

They will be responsible for researching emerging workplace legislation issues, jurisdictional scanning, preparing briefing materials and policy recommendations, as well as drafting correspondence.

The Policy and Planning Analysts will also support stakeholder engagements and help analyze stakeholder feedback regarding policy changes.

They will be required to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to identify issues, clarify instructions on direction and coordinate branch responses.


  • Superior organization, project management and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple requests, competing priorities and to meet tight timelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Possess demonstrated abilities to write clear options analysis and briefings.
  • Ability to function well in a teambased environment that demands excellent interpersonal skills and ability to help others come to consensus.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to complete tasks independently and proactively.
  • Ability to think critically and provide effective feedback and wellreasoned options and recommendations.

Qualifications:


  • A degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Social Sciences or a relevant field).
  • Assets will include:
  • Experience writing reports, briefings, policy documents and/or presentations with recommendations to leadership.
  • Experience in coordination or leadership of multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of the public policy development process.
