The Edmonton 2 Spirit Society (E2S) has a history of bringing together the 2 Spirit community in the greater Edmonton area to strategize around our needs.

The Edmonton 2 Spirit Society (E2S) was provincially incorporated in 2018 and federally incorporated in 2021.

Position Summary


The Financial Controller and Capacity Building Manager will be part of a multidisciplinary team, co-leading a team of educators, advocates, community helpers, and project coordinators in line with our funding agreements.

The Financial Controller and Capacity Building Manager, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, will assist in coordinating and conducting the day-to-day business and strategic direction of the organization.

They will also work closely with the Board Executive in managing internal and external communications with the community and the broader public.

The job requires specialist skills in financial management, human resource, and project management, including payroll and benefits coordination, and managing a portfolio of capacity building projects and programs.

Most importantly, working knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and being as well as 2SLGBTQIA+ lived experience will be essential in this role.

This role will require flexibility to travel to conduct society business, including supporting the Board in executing projects and grants, as well as attending conferences, gatherings, and ceremonial responsibilities.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ leadership, community building and advancing the reclamation of 2S peoples place in society.


Duties

Capacity Building Manager (80%)

  • Serve as an influential manager with the ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers. Possess great communication skills (oral & written) and take a holistic approach to manage the Society's Vision, Mission and Mandate especially as it relates to leading a team towards the realization of the outcomes required by our funding agreements.
  • Building an effective team of leaders by providing guidance, coaching and mentorship to managers and team leaders, other staff and consultants/contractors, as well as community members.
  • Understanding and adhering to ethical guidelines, project protocols, and research procedures
  • Negotiate and be responsible for effective monitoring of all contracts (employment and external service agreements) in collaboration with the Board and Executive Director.
  • Develop and deliver capacity building activities, projects and programs, tailored to the specific needs of the board, staff, and community.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, ensure community and membership engagement is planned and executed to serve the 2 Spirit community through such means as 2 Spirit Gatherings; Wind Forums; other forums; etc.
  • With support of the Executive Director and the board, review and revise our organizational policies, mission, and mandate to explicitly outline, address, or acknowledge the experiences of GBV that our community faces and our commitment as an organization to ending GBV.
  • Develop and implement a sustainability plan
  • With support of the Executive Director, develop and implement an accredited educational course that addresses 2 Spirit awareness and GBV to support the ongoing activities of the organization.
  • Develop capacity building opportunities for board and staff to learn how to write funding proposals and increase fiscal responsibility, increase leadership skills, enhance decision making processes, and improve board effectiveness.
  • With the support of the Executive Director, develop an advocacy strategy to address GBV in our community and ensure collaboration with partners
  • With the support of the Executive Director and the Board, develop and implement governance councils to engage Matriarchs, Youth, and Elders in our GBV work
