The Maritime Odd Fellows Home is a 47 Bed Long Term Care Facility located in the town of Pictou, overlooking picturesque Pictou Harbour.

The Odd Fellows Home has a long history providing quality care to our valued Residents and is in need of a permanent fulltime Maintenance Worker to join our team.


Reporting to and working with the Manager of Facilities and Environment, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, building facilities/services, and grounds of the facility.

The Maintenance Worker supports an environment which promotes the Home's Resident's independence, dignity, and wellbeing. The Maintenance Worker promotes a clean, comfortable and safe environment through the adherence of an established infection control program.


Working collaboratively as a member of the team by respecting and acknowledging the roles of all those within the Home and contributing to safe, competent and ethical care, the Maintenance Worker supports Resident-centred care that responds appropriately to the physiological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs.


Qualifications

  • Grade twelve (12) certificate or GED, Maintenance experience and a relevant Trade credential an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficient in the operation of tools and equipment used in general maintenance work.
  • Perform semiskilled and skilled work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical tasks. Perform preventative maintenance functions. An acceptable knowledge of building systems, machinery and equipment.
  • Must have knowledge and practice sanitary and safety measures needed to work in a healthcare environment.
  • Paint building interior, fixtures, equipment or exterior as assigned. Prepare surfaces for painting by stripping, filling cracks, smoothing rough spots, taping adjacent areas to prevent paint migration.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, as per preventive maintenance schedule, and/or as assigned.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and maneuver comfortably in the work place for the duration of the workday.
  • Maintain the grounds, cut grass, and clear walkways of snow and ice, and assists with garbage handling in the facility.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other employees.
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
  • Provide clear Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Maintains required vaccination status.
  • Must be able to accomplish all responsibilities with little supervision.
