What can I expect to do in this role?:

You will make it possible for students with Acquired/Congenital Deafblindness to access information and interact within their environment.
You will maintain the student's rights to privacy and dignity and ensure personal safety is not compromised at all times, recognizing the constraints inherent working within a school setting.

How do I qualify?:

Mandatory:

Secondary School Diploma with a Diploma of Intervenor for Deafblind or Support Specialist program certification from a recognized educational facility and/or equivalent training;
Current First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention Training and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training or equivalent.

Skills and Qualifications:
Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL);
Knowledge of Braille and Large Print Notes;
Experience working with students with sensory impairment/learning /physical disabilities, and has a background in child development;
Knowledge of relevant legislation/policies/procedures/guidelines/practices that address student care and safety;
Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals (i.e., Two Hand Manual Touch Cues, Concrete Cues and Picture Symbols);
Sound judgment and problemsolving skills;
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
