Position


The incumbent(s) work independently within the student services team, and contribute to the service, enrollment management and community outreach goals of the Faculty of Engineering.


They are accountable for contributing to the effective delivery and maintenance of the specialized programs within the Faculty of Engineering and its four departments and provide comprehensive, individualized assistance and academic advising.


Advisors must have a working knowledge of issues related to the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP) and accommodation of students with disabilities as well as a passion to work one-on-one with students.


The advisors will work closely with more than 4800 undergraduate students to provide advice on program requirements, academic performance and timetable management.

The incumbent (s) will also be the liaison to the departmental Associate Chairs of Undergraduate Studies, Program Directors and acts as a resource to department and faculty undergraduate academic planning committees.


Duties
Student Advising and Program Management

  • Advises current and prospective students and staff about university and faculty policies and procedures regarding admission, registration, program planning, program completion, convocation including Iron Ring, course withdrawals, academic standing, grades, deferred exams and FolPP; advising is conducted verbally and in writing (inperson and eadvising) Rotational advising to provide in person advising.
  • Advises and coaches students regarding larger life issues such as career planning; refers students with severe personal difficulties to the appropriate professional counsellors and/or agencies on campus
  • Complete student pre and corequisite checks throughout the year
  • Exercise full signing authority to grant or deny deferred exam and reexam requests, evaluating each case individually using established faculty policies and standards.
  • Monitor student progress to resolve timetable conflicts, identify course deficiencies and ensure students are aware of any Program of Faculty wide changes.
