The Centre for Studies in Family Medicine (CSFM) is an interdisciplinary team of investigators, research, and administrative staff, recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in family medicine and primary health care research.

The CSFM's research is based on the principles of patient-centered care, and takes place in three contexts: clinical care; the community; and the health care system.

The Diabetes Alliance Research Program within the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine, led by Dr.

Stewart Harris, a wholly grant funded program, is comprised of three distinct research programs:
clinical trials, community-driven Indigenous, and hypoglycemia.

The vision of the Diabetes Alliance is to be a global leader in diabetes research by cultivating collaborative partnerships and research excellence through innovation and translation of findings into discoveries.


Responsibilities:


  • The Web Communications & Design (WC&D) Coordinator is a central role in the highly integrated Diabetes Alliance responsible for supporting research teams in managing the development, implementation, monitoring and assessment of communications and marketing initiatives relating to the research. The Coordinator will further develop and update a website (Wordpress) that facilitates the implementation of a quality improvement program. This website includes with several interactive networking components and a searchable data library. The WC&D Coordinator will also update the Diabetes Alliance website (Cascade), develop and implement communication plans, and support the dissemination of research findings to build and promote a local, national, and international awareness of the research. The Web Communications & Design Coordinator will protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the University and its people by delivering concise, accurate information that is consistent with all of Western's applicable guidelines.

Education:


  • Undergraduate Degree in Arts, English/Literature, Journalism/Media or related program
  • Wordpress and Cascade website training is preferred
  • Certificate in Graphic Design or Corporate Communications is preferred
  • Experience:
  • 3 years' experience in strategic communications and graphic design; preferably within health research/academic setting
  • 3 years' experience in professional website creation (e.g. HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Wordpress)
  • Experience with social media management is preferred
  • Experience supporting communications activities related to diabetes research is preferred
  • Experience in a university setting is preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Premiere and Illustrator) and other design programs
  • Advanced skills using Wordpress and Cascade to create and update websites
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, balance tight deadlines and adapt quickly to new challenges and competing priorities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to deliver presentations to multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to complete and present detailed analytics and reports
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
  • Strong clientrelation skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional, culturallyappropriate, sensitive and timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to train staff or other stakeholders on new communication tools
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Acuity for detail and ability to synthesize information with utmost accuracy
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, culturally sensitive, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, with proven ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and within cross functional team
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, collegial relationships with knowledge users and research project staff
  • Knowledge of privacy
