Position Summary


Reporting to the Manager of Government Relations, the Communications & Marketing Strategist is primarily responsible for leading communications & marketing planning, strategy development and execution for the Office of Strategic Initiatives and External Relations (SIER) government relations (GR) portfolio.

In addition, the incumbent will serve as a strategic advisor for projects under SIER's strategic initiatives portfolio.

Both GR and strategic initiatives portfolios are College-wide in scope and have resulting impacts and measurable benefits to stakeholders across the institution.


Responsibilities

Communications & Marketing:


  • Work crossfunctionally with internal and external stakeholders to interpret communications & marketing needs and develop tailored plans and strategies to support GR and strategic initiatives portfolios goals and objectives.
  • Keep up to date on communications & marketing best practices, and analyze internal and external environments (including government activity and industry trends) to advise on communications & marketing strategies that strengthen the positioning of the College (and SIERled initiatives) in an increasingly competitive market.
  • Provide executive communications support to the President's Office, central Marketing & Communications teams, and SIER's management team through the development of presentations, speeches, briefings, key messages and social media content in preparation for internal and external speaking engagements and media opportunities.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a variety of print and digital communications & marketing materials, including reports, newsletters, blogs, presentations, briefings, videos, advertisements and photography.
  • Work with seniorlevel internal stakeholders from both Information Technology (IT) and central Marketing & Communications teams to routinely refresh and advise on website content to ensure information is accurate, relevant and uptodate.

Public Relations:


  • Work collaboratively with creativeagency partners, SIER's management team, and internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver PR campaigns, special events, outreach and advocacy strategies to promote and pursue support for GR and SIERled College initiatives.
  • Work directly with the Manager of Government Relations to develop a variety of internal and external communications materials, including presentations, submissions, briefings, reports, and letters to support outreach and advocacy initiatives for the College.
  • Consult with seniorlevel internal and external stakeholders in order to drive alignment of messaging across diverse audiences and multiple traditional and digital channels in relation to PR, outreach and advocacy initiatives
  • Facilitate and oversee the production of relevant communication pieces to support PR activities, including news releases, media advisories, key messages, Q&As, backgrounders and factsheets.
  • Utilize media monitoring tools (including Meltwater) to track media coverage of GR and SIERled College initiatives.

Project Management:


  • Provide project management support for all communications, marketing and PR projects, including branding projects, digital marketing projects and digital and traditional marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain strong, respectful and collaborative working relationships with creativeagency partners and internal teams to ensure the efficient completion of projects.
  • Work collaboratively with seniorlevel internal IT and Marketing & Communications teams to establish and implement best practices in information architecture, navigation, user interfaces, usability and compliance with accessibility standards (AODA) for all digital marketing projects and campaigns.
