Your Role


As CBC's Environmental Sustainability Lead, you will lead CBC though focussed impactful environmental change and action by working closely with all of CBC's in house producers (including those in CBC News and CBC Entertainment divisions) as well as with independent producers, CBC's environmental influencers and green teams to help us adopt greener production practices, and greener content choices.

You will also be in charge of implementing other changes to help CBC continue to be a leader in environmentally sustainable decision making and action.

The successful incumbent will decide how to take faster impactful environmentally sustainable action in the creation and production of programming while ensuring that the rest of CBC's overall strategies and priorities are balanced


Your responsibilities will include:
- acting as the CBC expert on use of the albert carbon calculator on program production;- distilling, sharing and advancing lessons learned connected to carbon calculator results, green production guide, green certification and carbon offsets;- fostering, leading and creating a climate of green storytelling and green editorial choices;- leading CBC's training to internal and external producers and creators on its environmental priorities (including on all matters which are content related including the albert carbon calculator; green production guide; and green editorial choices and storytelling);- managing CBC's program related data on its environmental action and creating reports for use inside and outside CBC on the data and what actions should flow from it;- managing specific channels of communication, including the CBC internal sustainability newsletter and external green production resources webpage;- overseeing and driving forward other green priorities for CBC English Services including changes connected to reuse; waste; energy use; gardens; and environmental content initiatives and hubs;- acting as co-chair of CBC's Environmental Influencers committee;- sitting on CBC's cross-dept Environmental Sustainability committee;- learning and sharing worldwide environmentally sustainable techniques and action.

You communicate well. You have an expertise in environmental sustainability combined with strong knowledge about the production of content (especially video content). You will report to CBC's Executive Director of Business & Rights and Production Sustainability.

You will work with, share information and build green momentum with the members of CBC's Sustainability Committee including the Manager, Environment and with representatives from Radio-Canada.- A post-secondary education or related experience, in environmental sustainability.

Experience in environmental sustainability in media sector will be considered an asset- In-depth knowledge and experience with television, audio and digital media process and production;- Training and presentation experience;- Experience with data aggregation and presentation in a way that is simple and inspires action;- Strong computer skills (familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Power BI would be considered an asset);- Ability to comprehend and translate the concerns of internal and external producers into appropriate environmentally sustainable actions;- Creativity and innovative problem-solving skills to address all policy and production issues in a manner which successfully balances multiple interests;- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including an ability to work with both emerging and experienced producers - inside and outside CBC as well as with mid level and senior management and industry leaders;- Ability to handle multiple priorities, and work under pressure;- Ability to exercise judgment and work independently taking initiative;- Strong analytical skills;- Able and willing to work beyond regular office hours during peak periods of activity as well as the flexibility to attend industry functions and events;- Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
