About Musqueam


Musqueam Indian Band is seeking a full-time project coordinator for a [two year] term, to work in the Intergovernmental Affairs department.

This position has opportunity to extend based on funding.

The IGA project coordinator will be responsible for facilitating the development and oversight of project files related to Musqueam's inherent title and rights.

Responsibilities include managing deadlines, records, correspondence, and deliverables for IGA projects, consulting internally to ensure Musqueam strategic priorities and interests guide project work and liaising and developing relationships with external agencies and proponents.

The IGA project coordinator represents Musqueam at a senior level in areas involving consultation and accommodation and legislative and policy changes occurring at various levels of government.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a high volume of complex project work through coordination of resources, development of project scopes and estimation of resource and staff requirements
  • Review and analyze incoming referrals, undertake strategic planning, and identify priorities
  • Identify project related impacts and issues or areas of interest to community and facilitate community engagement as needed
  • Facilitate project work through negotiation of capacity funding agreements, coordination of resources, development of project scopes and estimation of resource and staff requirements
  • Implement, track, and allocate budgets for each project or agreement
  • Act as the MIB City of Vancouver Liaison by managing City of Vancouver project referrals, attending meetings, and coordinating project work across various Musqueam departments
  • Advance Musqueam's position as it relates to Musqueam's title, rights, and interests by providing strategic advice and briefing of senior management and leadership on a range of issues
  • At the request of the Manager, or at own discretion, prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of correspondence or briefing materials for management, the Title & Rights Committee, and/or Chief and Council; this may include researching issues and ensuring prepared responses are consistent with Musqueam Indian Band Policy and direction
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skill and knowledge attained by successful completion of a postsecondary degree in Political Science, Public Policy, First Nations Studies, or a related field. Possession of a master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous politics and law.
  • Cultural competency and knowledge of Musqueam culture and interests.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Understanding project management methods and skills.
  • Exceptional communicator with excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to be discrete, use tact, and good judgment.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and complete tasks/project in accordance with stated deadlines.
  • Criminal record check.
Working Conditions

  • The work is performed in an office environment.
  • Some evening work may be required.
