The Human Resources department is a part of the administration team, providing support to the programs of House of Friendship.

The Human Resources Generalist (Canada Summer Jobs) supports the organization's success by providing administrative support the HR Partners and team.


This is a temporary, full-time position, working 35 hours per week for 8 weeks, starting on June 12th. Work may be performed from a home office for some hours of the week.

The Government of Canada funded this job through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Data and information collection and data entry to support program reporting
  • Support House of Friendship's training programs including the new hire orientation and HOF101 programs
  • Support the recruitment process by posting jobs, performing reference checks as needed and sending employment offers and orientation packages
  • Support the collection and analysis of data related to health and safety, recruitment, retention, engagement, training etc.
  • Assist with other program service activities and special events, including planning, preparation and clean up
  • Provide back up to main office reception
  • Provide administrative support for volunteer and student programs

  • Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
  • Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs
  • Experience with and commitment to using an antiracism, antioppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude
  • Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges
  • Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping

Education/Experience:


  • Minimum Grade 12 education required
  • Registered in a Postsecondary diploma or degree program in Business or Human Resource Management is preferred

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:


  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office products, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as working knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proven problem solving, judgement and time management skills
  • Personable and approachable professional with experience providing exceptional customer service
  • Selfstarter with demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and within a team
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks with interruptions, and effectively adapt to changing priorities

  • Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
