Key Responsibilities:
- Assess physical and emotional conditions of clients, tailoring support and activities to their individual needs
- Engage with clients in activities, promoting socialization and offering emotional regulation support
- Uphold the highest ethical standards of practice within a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment
- Provide basic hygiene care, including changing clothes and assisting with bathroom breaks
- Ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment, providing ageappropriate activities with necessary adaptations
- Promote behavioral change and personal growth among children and youth struggling to cope due to social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays
- Deliver life skills training in line with the established goals of the youth and relevant stakeholders
- Work within the youth's community, utilizing local resources and programs
- Initiate activity groups, catered to the specific needs and goals of the youth
- Possess the ability to work independently and with a team of professionals including families, healthcare professionals, and counselors
Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Education, Child and Youth Worker, or related field
- Behavioral Science Technology Diploma, Autism Behavioral Science Certificate, Registered Behavioral Technician certificate, or related (preferred)
- Must possess CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Crisis Intervention, or TCI
- 6 months 1 year experience working in a position with exposure to ABA techniques and strategies (preferred)
- Previous experience with children and youth, highly energetic, enthusiastic, positive, creative, and have great play skills
- Solid understanding of and experience working with children and youth with physical or mental developmental disabilities
- Experience and understanding of the harm reduction model
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to developmental needs
- Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals
- Successful result of Criminal Record check
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for potential client transportation
Physical Requirements:
- Activities such as swimming, hiking, and physical games
- Significant lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- Ability to lift at least 30 Lbs, sit on the floor with children, run, walk at a fast pace and demonstrate energy and enthusiasm
- Successful result of a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Uptodate CPR certification
