Nootka Marine Adventures is a leading resort operator dedicated to sustainable adventure tourism on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

We host guests from around the world and love to share our passion for saltwater sportfishing and other outdoor adventures.

Our focus is to grow a new generation of passionate anglers by teaching families and youth to fish.


The Human Resources Manager leads, directs, and oversees all functions of the human resources department and works closely with the leadership team.

The Human Resources Manager will work primarily in our head office in Courtenay, BC. This position reports to the General Manager.

  • Relevant degree/diploma and minimum 3 years experience in an HR role.
  • Strong people orientation balanced with an understanding of business needs.
  • Experience with HRIS (HR information systems).
  • Up to date knowledge of BC employment legislation including ESA, PIPA, Worker's Compensation, and Human Rights.
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills to assist managers in resolving workplace issues.
  • A great relationshipbuilder with an approachable, trustworthy, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to thrive when working independently and in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Exemplary organizational skills.
  • A strong command of Microsoft Office suite including Teams.
  • CPHR designation. _(an asset)_
  • Experience overseeing and processing payroll. _(an asset)_
  • Familiarity with Payworks workforce management system. _(an asset)_
  • Experience in the tourism & hospitality industry, especially remote fishing resorts. _(an asset)_

What you'll be doing:


  • Lead, direct, and oversee all functions of the human resources department.
  • Maintain historical human resource records.
  • Send offer letters.
  • Lead all onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Oversee and manage employee terminations.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing provincial and federal requirements.
  • Conduct disciplinary investigations.
  • Maintain staffing structure by updating position descriptions and organizational charts.
  • Travel to Company properties as needed.
  • Establish and/or maintain a recruiting and interviewing program in cooperation with hiring managers.
  • Establish and/or maintain orientation, training, and professional development programs.
  • Train managers to coach and discipline employees according to standard procedures.
  • Schedule and head management conferences in relation to HRrelated news, training, or presentations.
  • Hear and resolve employee grievances.
  • Plan an execute team culture and employee engagement activities and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and rollout of all internal employee communications processes and content.
  • Oversee the annual review process.
  • Oversee and ensure management understanding of the performance management process.
  • Oversee, develop, and manage our internal policies, guidelines, and agreements, and be the first point of contact for related staff inquiries.
  • Lead the evaluation and improvement of our total compensation packages.
  • Oversee health, safety, and wellness program compliance.
  • Work closely with the accounting department in managing timecard processing, biweekly payroll, and any daytoday issues related to payroll.
  • Maintain the employee benefits program and inform employees of benefitsrelated news, changes, and programs.
  • Make recommendations to leadership in regard to employee benefits and wellness programs.
  • Maintain a professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Evaluate, initiate, and continually improve our peoplerelated programs, policies, processes, and technologies.

Compensation:

This is a year-round permanent position with an expected salary range between $70,000 to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Mileage is paid for approved business travel. Extended health and dental benefits are included after 3 months.
