The International Offices (branch) is responsible for ensuring effective management, operations and oversight of the Alberta International Offices (AIO) Network.

With offices around the world, the AIO network plays a key role in advancing Alberta's international interests abroad within their respective local markets.


The branch has two units:
AIO Operations and AIO Oversight, Accountability and Reporting.


Within the branch, the Oversight, Accountability and Reporting Unit is responsible for leading the development and delivery of oversight and accountability mechanisms, performance reporting, enabling and supporting optimal performance of the AIO network.

Role:

Put your strong strategic thinking skills to good use with a team of purpose-driven individuals in playing a key role in advancing Alberta's international interest abroad


Reporting to the Director, Alberta International Office Network, your role as the Team Lead, AIO Network Oversight leads a small team of professionals to develop, manage, and maintain qualitative and quantitative reporting on complex, multifaceted network activity supporting the full range of the GoA's priorities in international markets.

This includes oversight to AIO delivery on programs that support trade and export development, international relations and advocacy, investment attraction, international education and talent attraction, and development of research and innovation collaborations.


Within this complex context, you will interpret goals and objectives of multiple business areas and partner ministries to support the development of implementation plans and provide advice to senior management on deployment of resources to ensure optimal performance of the AIO network.


Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and management of oversight processes for the AIO Network: This includes designing and implementing processes for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of programs delivered through the AIO network and ensuring that these processes are followed consistently.
  • Facilitating the development of strategic international implementation plans: This includes working with partner ministries and AIOs to identify opportunities for collaboration and coordination and helping to develop plans for implementing programs in market.
  • Communicating with stakeholders: This includes keeping stakeholders informed about the progress and outcomes of programs and engaging with them to gather feedback and address any concerns they may have.
  • Developing collateral materials to support the AIO network in articulating Alberta's value proposition as a jurisdiction: This includes working with AIO management to identify information product needs, overseeing development and delivery of documents and ensuring that these remain current and relevant to the needs of the network.

Qualifications:


  • A university degree specializing in public administration, business, political science, Canadian Studies, economics, law, or a related field and a minimum of six years of related progressively more responsible experience.
  • Experience managing teams or projects.
  • Extensive experience with program oversight and accountability frameworks, preferably in a public sector context.
  • Experience with or knowledge of best practices with monitoring and reporting on results.

Equivalencies to be considered as below:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:


  • Experience with or knowledge of international business development, including trade, advocacy, investment attraction, R&D partnerships, or talent attraction.
  • Experience working with economic development or innovation ecosystems and stakeholders.
  • Experience with managing complex or sensitive issues in a dynamic environment.
