The Café Attendant provides high quality food services preparing food and ensuring a healthy choice of options are provided.

The position is also responsible for safety and sanitation of the café in accordance with YMCA and public health standards.

The position is also responsible for safety and sanitation of the café in accordance with YMCA and public health standards.


In this role, you will:


  • Prepare café for service, including the prepping of fruit and vegetables, stocking inventory, and supplies. Opening and closing duties as prescribed by the protocols and operational policies of the Y Café.
  • Cook and prepare high quality food and provides excellent service to customers; prepare menu items and orders as requested. Maintain all coffee and tea stations throughout the day. Prepare daily specials, catering orders and manages ordering and inventory.
  • Maintain all daily cash outs, month end reports, manages purchasing and inventory in accordance with café and catering documentation. Complete bank deposits as required.
  • Assist the catering manager in all areas related to Metro Hall Meeting room requests including but not limited to menu consultations, ordering, cooking, packaging and delivery of orders to respective meeting rooms.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of kitchen supplies, sanitation of prep and service areas; follows all health and safety procedures as outlined in YMCA policy and procedures manuals, occupational health & safety act and public health regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

You bring:


  • Food handling certificate; First Aid certification
  • Experience in fastpaced, family friendly food service environment
  • Demonstrated skills in food preparation
  • Knowledge of standard kitchen equipment and tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety and sanitation in a kitchen environment
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Flexibility regarding hours of work
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
