Work environment The Electronics and Informatics (E&I) branch is responsible for providing planning and direction in the life-cycle management of all Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) specific land electronics assets, ship electronic assets as well as Information Technology (IT) assets. These CCG assets include highly diverse and complex range of electronic equipment, software applications, informatics and telecommunications systems.
The E&I branch is also accountable for the effective and efficient support and maintenance of CCG E&I assets in the various regions, in support of CCG internal and external clients.
Intent of the process A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to fill similar positions with various tenures, security profiles and linguistic requirements within the Canadian Coast Guard.

Information you must provide In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, naval architecture or another engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada (The term "eligibility" for certification or membership in a professional association means that a candidate has met all academic and occupational requirements with respect to degrees, examinations, experience, etc. without having to have obtained or maintained actual registration, certification or membership).
EXPERIENCE
• Significant experience in the production or evaluation of engineering studies and reports
• Significant experience in the definition and establishment of statements of work, technical requirements, and/or specifications for engineering projects
• Experience in managing projects or initiatives
• Experience providing technical expertise and advice to management
Significant experience is defined as experience associated with the performance of a large number of complex activities, taking into consideration the scope of the duties and the level of responsibility normally possessed by an individual who has performed the duties on a regular basis for approximately a total of 5 years. This 5 years of experience does not need to be continuous, and can be obtained over a longer period.

• Certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada
• Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)
ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Recent experience in leading, assigning, coaching, or coordinating the work of staff, students, consultants, or project team members
• Experience in human resource management
• Experience in financial management
• Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team
• Experience in the provision of a range of engineering services related to the design, construction or maintenance of ships, ship systems, ship schematics or equipment and systems related to Canadian Coast Guard's assets
• Experience with Government of Canada procurement processes
• Experience developing acquisition and project management plans for a system or asset
• Experience in the provision of a range of engineering services for one or more of the communication and navigation technologies used within the marine environment, including but not limited to: radio communications systems, satellite communication systems, RADAR, Automatic Identification System (AIS), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
Recent experience is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of those duties on a regular basis for a period of approximately twelve (12) months or more acquired in the past six (6) years. However, a shorter duration may be considered based on demonstrated complexity and diversity of work handled, scope of work, and/or level of direct responsibility for a wide variety of complex files and/or projects.
Human resources management includes the planning, directing and coordinating activities related to the recruitment, performance and talent management and learning and development of employees. Candidates must indicate the number of employees they have supervised.
Financial resources management includes managing a budget, resource management and forecasting, planning, budget allocation, tracking expenditures, reporting, etc. Applicants must indicate the size of the budget they managed and whether they were accountable for that budget.

• Willing and able to work overtime upon request and on short notice
• Willingness and capacity to work on ships either in port or at sea
• Willingness and capacity to travel to remote locations and to perform work on vessels at sea
• Willingness and capacity to travel by various modes for training and field work (such as by snowmobile, helicopter, small vessels, etc.)
• Willingness to conduct site visits to vessels, shipyards, land communication or radar sites, and other industrial sites, involving walking over rough terrain
• Possess a valid unrestricted provincial or territorial driver's license
• Requirement to travel for extended periods for general duties and for training purposes. Travel could be required outside the regional area
• Requirement to occasionally work on weekends
