    Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in BUSI 1130U – Introductory Financial Accounting.

    Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

    The primary responsibility of the applicant is to teach a relevant, interesting and engaging introductory financial accounting course at the university level following an existing course outline and using the prescribed approach for the course, within the parameters of the course description listed above. The course is designed to introduce students in a Bachelor of Commerce program to financial statements and how to interpret them. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

    This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

    Required Education:

    ●Candidates must have an undergraduate degree AND a Canadian CPA designation.

    Required Skills:

    ●Familiarity with IFRS and ASPE

    ●Familiarity with the CPA Competency Map

    ●Familiarity with a user-oriented approach to accounting information and financial statements

    ●Ability to conduct an interactive student focused class

    ●Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner

    ●High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meets and Kaltura.

    ●Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.

    ●An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community

    Required Experience

    ●Candidates must have at least one year of accounting work experience in a Canadian context.

    ●This course will be offered in-person on Ontario Tech University's North Campus. The successful candidate must be prepared to teach at this site.

    ●Teaching experience at the university level in a business program, either as an instructor or a tutorial leader is desirable, though not required.
