The Benefits and Pension Advisor plays a key role in assessing, improving, and managing the company's group benefit and pension plans, including group health, dental, life and disability, group RSP, and pension.

This role necessitates a combination of analytical capabilities, administrative expertise, strategic vision, and strong communication to align with employee needs and organizational goals.

The Advisor will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of our group benefits programs, enhancing the overall experience for AMA employees.


Benefits and Pension Advisor responsibilities:


Program administration:


  • Developing, updating, and maintaining AMA policies, procedures, and processes related to benefits and pensions, ensuring accessibility to the HR Team and employees.
  • Coordinate the implementation of benefit and pension plan changes, including reviewing contracts, liaising with providers, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and make recommendations on individual employee issues and concerns related to benefits and pensions.

Employee education and support:


  • Actively promote, support, and educate employees, HR Advisors, and the HR administration team on AMA's Benefits and Pension offerings.
  • Conduct benefit and pension information sessions for individuals and groups of employees to increase their understanding and assist in informed decisionmaking.
  • Provide guidance and direction to HR Advisors and HR Administrative staff to accurately respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits and pensions.

Reporting and Data Analysis:


  • Conduct analysis and present information on benefit and pension activities, trends, and related data to the HR Leadership Team.
  • Develop, produce, and validate reports for internal use and external benefit and pension providers, including Annual Pension Data, Pensionable Earnings Report, Credited Service Report, Termination Report, and GRRSP Report.

Research, Analysis, and Recommendations:


  • Provide comprehensive research, analysis, and recommendations during reviews of potential changes or upgrades to AMA's benefit and pension plans.
  • Identify linkages and coordination requirements with other support functions within AMA, including HRIS system and 3rd party providers.

Project Coordination and Management:


  • Participate in Benefit and Pension projects and activities, collaborating with HR Leadership to review and enhance existing plans to meet employee and organizational needs.
  • Chair meetings, develop project plans, create timelines, and oversee communication materials for the annual employee Benefit Enrollment process.
  • A postsecondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field
  • A minimum of 35 years' experience in benefits and pension administration is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of benefits and pension principles, practices and procedures is a must
  • CEBS designation is an asset
  • Able to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities, ensuring business needs are met with superior research and analytical abilities, and attention to detail
  • Accuracy with data entry
  • Solid business acumen, integrity and ethics.
  • Self motivated, able to work independently and able to meet deadlines
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the organizational culture with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly and accurately articulate benefits and pension plan information to staff
  • Selfmotivated and able to work with mínimal supervision
  • Actions are governed by integrity and ethics
  • Ability to commit to a 12month term
