Inc, a family owned and operated farm in southern Manitoba, has an opening for a position in Agronomy and Farm Management.


Southern Potato Co., a progressive farm, operates on 11,000 acres in crop rotation of potatoes, corn, canola, dry beans, and cereals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight and management of rotation crops.
  • Oversee logistics and operations of seeding, spraying & harvest activities, including operating farm machinery at times.
  • Crop and fertility planning including map based variable rate prescriptions.
  • Scouting of rotation crops.
  • Ensuring crop protection decisions are following Canada GAP and product label requirements.
  • On farm technology specialist, specifically with John Deere displays and farm management software.
  • Train other staff on technology use.
  • Invest time in developing improved farm methods for planting, cultivation, and harvesting operations. This includes evaluation of new methods on farm practices which can improve yields, or reduce environmental impact of existing farm operations.
Qualifications and requirements

  • Diploma or degree in agriculture, completed or in process.
  • Certified Crop Advisor; completed or desire to complete.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work outside and in variable conditions for extended hours.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other GIS based programs.
  • Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Awareness of industry trends, technology, and other developments.
  • Critical thinking and decisionmaking skills.

Salary for this position will be based on experience. Southern Potato Co. offers a competitive benefits package including pension, health benefits and profit sharing.
