Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Officer is responsible for interpreting and administering all collective agreements, relevant legislation and regulations, including collective bargaining preparation activities and industrial relations.
The Human Resources Officer is also responsible for conducting recruitment and absence management, developing HR procedures and policies, assisting with pay equity, managing of personal records and HR technologies and providing manager and employee support.
The Human Resources Officer will have specific responsibilities in the area of development, implementation and maintenance of the Board's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), Risk Management, Long Term Disability (LTD), Absence Management, Disability Management, Wellness and related processes and systems.
Valid Class G drivers' license
Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field (eg. Health Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources); knowledge of the public education system is an asset.
Certifications in Disability Management (CDMP), Occupational Health and Safety Management, or Certified Return to Work Coordinator preferred;
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a multi-unionized environment with extensive knowledge of Disability Management, early intervention, worker accommodation and return to work plans, WSIB occupational and non-occupational illnesses/disabilities, as well as safety and wellness programs;
Conversant in medical terminology with experience in interpreting medical, functional and vocational assessments;
Strong abilities in a computerized environment utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases and HRIS systems to facilitate communication, tracking and reporting;
Working knowledge of all applicable legislation including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
Thorough understanding of Human Rights, the accommodation process and the Ontario Employment Standards.Responsibilities Include
Provide support to all Board employees in the areas of attendance management, Employee and Family Assistance Program support, sick leave plan administration, return to work support, and liaising with union representatives, administrators, managers, and supervisors.
Provide vision and leadership for improving, refining, coordinating and supporting well-being, employee Health and Safety, and the Accessible and Healthy Workplace Program.
Provide guidance, interpretation and information to employees in relation to sick leave plans, return to work supports, WSIB and LTD claims.
Coordinate Modified Work Plans, Return to Work Plans, and workplace accommodation plans for staff.Prepare and present reports and statistics related to claims costs, Disability Management cases and Health and Safety programs.
