Teaching and Learning Specialist:

Faculty Development is a small but integral unit in the College of Medicine. Our mission is to support faculty in their roles as educators, researchers, and leaders.

We work closely with Postgraduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, and Continuing Medical Education to provide support and resources at the individual level, departmentally as well as the broader program planning level and for the College of Medicine generally; across all campuses.


Primary Purpose:


The Teaching and Learning Specialist position will support the mission and strategic deliverables of Faculty Development to engage all faculty members to improve educational practice, leadership, research, and scholarship in the College of Medicine.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop, implement, and evaluate faculty development programming in response to needs assessments and our strategic plan across a distributed learning environment in Saskatchewan.


Nature of Work:


Reporting to the Director and working effectively with the FD Team, the incumbent will develop resources, facilitate workshops and other sessions, collaborate on committees, participate in research and scholarship, and assist in evaluating various Faculty Development activities.

The incumbent must be able to work independently and collaboratively with Faculty Development and numerous partners in the College of Medicine and in the medical community in Saskatchewan.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


  • Develop and facilitate high quality workshops related to teaching and learning, leadership, and scholarship.
  • Develop high quality resources related to teaching and learning, leadership, research, and scholarship; particularly using advanced educational technology.
  • Improve and keep up to date the Faculty Development website appearance, content and functionality.
  • Maintenance and creation of Faculty Development online Canvas courses and their evaluation.
  • Participate in various committees related to medical education priorities in the College of Medicine.
  • Participate in the tracking and evaluation of various Faculty Development sessions and resources supporting advanced learning analytics for continuing professional development.
  • Participate in scholarship activities.
  • Contribute to the marketing of Faculty Development activities including through social media platforms.
  • Contribute to the planning of faculty development for the College of Medicine.
  • Recruit, train, and support faculty to become resources for the broader faculty development community in the College of Medicine.
  • Provide oneonone faculty support (e.g., coaching and observation of teaching).

Education:

A Master's degree in Education is required.
