The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities.

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre works with youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and behavioural difficulties, ages 12 to 17, as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial.

Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.


Under the supervision of Indigenous Cultural Coordinator as part of the Maples Indigenous Cultural Program team, the Indigenous Child Care Counselor, CCC 18, is responsible for providing cultural assessment, mental health assessment, care planning, treatment, discharge and community services for youth impacted by thought disorders or conduct disorder admitted to the Centre.

In accordance with established principles and guidelines of practice; the Indigenous Child Care Counsellor will plan cultural activities, teachings and quarterly feasts, perform various administrative duties which support program objectives; and to perform other related duties as required.


Job Requirements:


  • Two (2) year Health and Human Services Diploma; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in health and Human Services. Preference may be given to applicants with a Degree in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, or Social Work.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience working with Indigenous children and youth.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working directly with youth. Preference may be given to those with experience delivering support services to youth with identified mental or behavioural health.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction
  • Applicants who selfidentify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:

This is a full-time temporary opportunity until July 9, 2024 that may be extended or may become permanent. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
