The Infrastructure Technician is responsible for the Trillium Infrastructure and Sub-system.

Technicians carrying out comprehensive preventative and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, recovery and repair service to the Trillium Line Electrical systems, Signaling & Train Control systems and Rail Communication systems & associated equipment including but not limited to Data communication and computer Network, SCADA, Fiber Optic Transmission, Public address, Emergency Telephone systems, Radio systems, CCTV, various messaging signs and public information display, security systems, Fire Detection Alarm and Intrusion Detection systems, ensuring that these systems are operating at a high standard of safety and reliability.

The technician will also participate in inspections and maintenance related to infrastructure assets.


The Technician maintains the systems assets and related support equipment in accordance with procedures, engineering drawings and specifications, and is proficient in the operation and maintenance of shop equipment and instruments.


The Technician also provides first line maintenance response to help maintain a high quality, safe and efficient transit service; is involved in the installation, testing and commissioning of asset modifications or new asset implementation.

Inspects and approves work undertaken by contractors or sub-system suppliers. Recommends and implement measures to improve asset performance.

The
Signaling Communication and Electrical Technician will report directly to the Wayside Maintenance Supervisor.


Safety critical position:
This position is safety critical. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.


How will you contribute to the team?

  • Execution of the predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance including but not limited to signaling, communications and electrical system.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and SLDs.
  • Follow written procedures, engineering drawings and instructions to execute preventative maintenance, modification and corrective maintenance as required or directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Technical analysis of faults, software/HW development and integration.
  • Complete work orders, checklists, tracking sheets and all necessary documentation clearly and on time.
  • Support specific technical investigations by Engineering or internal/external supplier.
  • Perform and plan preventative maintenance following written procedures, keep records of the results and report all defects found.
  • Prioritize work within a shift to minimize unavailability and ensure that assigned work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Liaise/coordinate with subcontractors and client to carry out maintenance or inspections for related subsystem and infrastructure assets.
  • Recommend and implement measures to improve asset performance and reduce maintenance costs and/or response time.
  • Responsible for ensuring working areas, storage areas and duty vehicles are kept in a clean and safe state and for completing housekeeping, vehicle usage and other related checklists.
  • Ensures that any equipment or materials used are replenished at the earliest opportunity.
  • Assist with commissioning of new and existing Electronics systems and support systems ensuring high reliability and safety of equipment.
  • Contribute to On The Job Training and mentoring of colleagues and be able to step up to lead a team.
  • Support the objectives of contractual reliability and availability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What will you contribute?

  • Minimum 2year technical degree in electronics, communications, or electrical disciplines.
  • Relevant railway experience an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally. Must be able to communicate clearly and give & receive dispatches by radio.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license
  • Class G.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Signals and Train Control and SCADA systems is considered an asset.
  • Previous exposure/experience in a transit operational environment.
  • A willingness to devote the time and energy necessary to meet the significant demands of a high profile and key infrastructure project in the City of Ottawa; and
  • Must be flexible to work on nights, weekends, Holidays, rotational shifts (24/7) and oncalls to ensure availability of technicians for operations.
