An Associate Faculty position is a full-time role and provides coverage as needed for various classes.

This specific opening will be will support the creation and delivery of a range of programs and events in the fields of global education, service learning, experiential education and community engagement, under the direction of the Head of Global Stewardship.

This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of a B.Ed. program, who is seeking to gain classroom teaching experience; or for those that have one to three years' experience. The Associate Faculty role also supports extra-curricular requirements.

This position also works actively with the Boarding Team, providing support to the students in the boarding program, working alongside other House Parents to perform regular, rostered duties, and to ensure appropriate supervision and care is provided.

Responsibilities will include:

Provides both TOC coverage and when necessary longer-term coverage when faculty members are away for a leave of absence.

Facilitate student learning individually and in small groups.

Work with teachers to create a positive school environment that will emphasize a student-centered, caring atmosphere.

Accompany students on field trips and excursions during class time if required.

Liaise with teachers to address student social and emotional needs, including those related to break, lunch, health, clothing, and general well-being.

Supporting the Boarding Program through regular shifts in the evenings and on weekends.

Attending Boarding meetings and participating in appropriate Pro-D opportunities.

Lead a small group of students in school Advisory program, providing leadership and plan/coordinate experiential education opportunities in partnership with the Global Stewardship team.

Teach experiential education workshops that have been co-created with the Global Stewardship team.

Communicate with local organizations and develop opportunities for student workshops and volunteering.

Organize and maintain the Global Stewardship team social media communication.

Leading the GS co-curricular programming during community blocks, lunch, after school and/or some weekends.

Create and maintain the community partnership contact list and develop opportunities for volunteer placements, internships and work experience.

Work in conjunction with the GS Team and parent's association on organizing volunteers for major school events.

Be willing to take the Duke of Edinburgh award training process through an online course mentorship.

Supervising duties as required, including placement on a duty rotation for lunch.

Participating in student activities during non-instructional time. Expected to be involved in extracurricular activities in two of the three school terms.

Qualifications will include:

Teaching certification required.

Completion of a B.Ed. program.

Superior reports from practicum experience during attainment of teaching certification.

Ability to build strong rapport with students.

Team player who will work to foster an open and positive classroom environment.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Experience teaching is considered an asset.

Experience in a residential type setting with young students is considered an asset.

Ability to deal with a number of key stakeholders (i.e. students, teachers, parents).

Experience with Duke of Edinburgh award.

Experience with experiential learning pedagogy, First Peoples Principles of Learning, social justice education and education for sustainability.
