Position Description:


Under the general guidance of the Manager, Total Rewards, the
Job Evaluation Specialist maintains the consistency, integrity, internal equity, and ongoing support through the processes and procedures of Job Evaluation.

The Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating job design, documentation, and evaluation for assigned employee groups:
full-time and part-time, bargaining, and non-bargaining unit positions across George Brown College (GBC).


Key responsibilities:


  • Job Evaluation (JE) Processes and Client Group Relations
  • Provides training and support to managers for JE procedures, processes, and practices.
  • Develops a full understanding of the manager's intended goals and purposes of the job to be evaluated. Supports managers in identifying job requirements and writing job descriptions. Proactively guides managers and assigned client group(s) in the preparation of job evaluation and job description documents.
  • Facilitates the process of creating and revising new/existing jobs in alignment with the jobs' purpose.
  • Reviews JE documents and provides recommendations, edits, and feedback including estimated banding, in consistency and alignment with JE tools existing job banding and job structures. Prepares rationales to explain evaluation outcomes.
  • Facilitate the resolution of Support Staff classification complaints and grievances.
  • Fulltime Faculty, Part-Time, Partial-Load, and Sessional Salary Calculation
  • Calculates initial starting step, evaluates educational qualifications and experience of individuals to determine classification for highest attainable step. This includes evaluating and researching education documents and experience using educational texts and liaising with credentials assessment institutions regarding overseas qualification to determine Ontario equivalencies. Provides initial step calculation information to academic union. Liaises with hiring managers and Chairs as required to gather additional information.
  • JE Tools Support (JDX)
  • Maintains JE information and content in JE tools (e.g., JDX).
  • Provides functional guidance to users, problemsolves minor technical issues, and works with vendor or enhancement, upgrades, or technical issues.
  • Coordinates JE processes (support fulltime and parttime, administrative, and nonbargaining positions).
  • Facilitates recruitment process.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience requirements:


  • Fouryear Degree from a recognized university or community college with specialization in Human Resource Management or some other specialist relevant to the duties of the position.
  • CHRP Preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years' progressive human resource experience working job evaluation and job description.
  • Experience writing and evaluating a broad range of jobs.
  • Experience providing position analysis services within a large, multiunion workplace is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Job Evaluation theories, principles, and practices.
