Recruiting AMURE Research Assistant or Associate in the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology

The Research Assistant or Associate will assist Prof.

Dennis Wendt in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, in terms of several research coordination roles focused on collaborations with Indigenous communities and organizations.

This professional may also, depending on interest and expertise, assist with coordinating Indigenous leadership initiatives in the Quebec Node of the Canadian Research Initiative for Substance Misuse (CRISM), for which Prof.

Wendt is a co-PI.

This professional will work closely with Prof.

Wendt as the research coordinator on several interrelated studies funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) concerning the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and substance use among Indigenous communities in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The professional may potentially also assist with collaborating on Indigenous substance use research and knowledge mobilization initiatives across Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The position is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop or expand community-based research experience with Indigenous communities.

  • Main duties:_
  • Assist with all aspects of research coordination, including partner engagement, taking minutes at meeting, following up with individuals concerning tasks, and other duties specified below;
  • Assist with building relationships with community study partners and potential partners;
  • Process bills/invoices from research expenses; manage subawards; process remuneration to knowledge keepers and research participants; and manage all financial bookkeeping from research studies and grants;
  • Assist with preparing research ethics and grant proposals; manage ethics and grants requirements;
  • Manage data storage and management, in accordance with ethical guidelines, McGill policy, and community partnership needs;
  • Coordinate data management in keeping with OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) principles and other relevant principles or regulations of data sovereignty with Indigenous Peoples;
  • Assist with recruiting participants for research;
  • Assist in organizing training for research assistants and lab volunteers;
  • Assign data collection tasks to Research Assistants (including assigning tasks and organizing the sharing of data collection materials between Research Assistants);
  • Depending on one's experience and interest: supervise Research Assistants in data collection, manuscript writing, and other aspects of research; assist with preparing manuscripts
  • Manage confidential documents, such as consent forms and research agreements;
  • Organize materials, visual aids and other materials as required for research and knowledge mobilization purposes;
  • Any other tasks that the position requires.
  • Position requirements:_
  • Holds a Master's or a Doctorate Degree in a related and appropriate field (e.g., Psychology, Public Health, Psychiatry, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, or related disciplines);
  • Excellent knowledge of written and oral English and French language skills;
  • Good knowledge of the use of common software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, Teams);
  • At least 2 years of research assistance experience.
  • Additional desired skills:_
  • Lived experience of Indigenous cultures, values, and epistemologies, and the approach, skills, and experience necessary to facilitate crosscultural knowledgebuilding and collaboration;
  • Experience with communitybased research and coordination with Indigenous communities;
  • Experience with substance use prevention or treatment research or other engagement;
  • Knowledge of a local Indigenous language is an asset but not expected;
  • Preference for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, as well as those who are already authorized to work in Canada for the duration of the position.
  • Workplace and hours_
  • This position will require at least some inperson work at the McGill University campus as well as potentially with Indigenous organizations and communities in Quebec and Atlantic Canada (any travel expenses outside the Greater Montreal area would be covered). Office space as well as any equipment needed for work at home will be provided.
  • This position is fulltime, for 35 hours per week. However, we encourage those interested in a parttime position to apply, as such might be an option depending on the applicant pool and the applicant's qualifications. It is also possible that a postdoctoral fellow or McGill graduate student RA position could be created for the right applicant.
  • Salary_
The minimum hourly rate for this position will be $28.44, plus benefits. The salary will be offered/negotiated based on the qualifications and experience of the professional selected and will be in line with the Association of McGill University Research Employ
