Job Scope and Accountabilities:

As Assistant Manager, you play a vital role in the Store Management Team.

Working with the Store Manager, you will support the Manager in the day to day leadership and management of a Northern store.

You, in conjunction with your Store Manager are accountable for all aspects of the store.

You will focus on customer service and will be accountable for both personal and store productivity results meeting or exceeding Northern's productivity standards.

The role of the Assistant Manager is to learn from within the skills and knowledge to grow into a Store Manager role.


Results Driven

  • Meets or exceed both personal and store sales budgets, daily, weekly and year to date.
  • Achieves key personal/store performance indicators at or above company standard.
  • Partners with the Manager in delivering Company objectives and initiatives.
  • Ensures the store team is fully trained in product information, selling skills and loss prevention techniques.

Customer Focus

  • Demonstrates and coaches to ensure all Associates follow all Fundamental Selling Skills and the outfit selling strategy.
  • Is accountable for sales floor coverage in the Store Manager's absence.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service in the store.
  • Ensures all Associates promote the Campaign Goals.
  • Ensures all Associates provide a warm and friendly shopping atmosphere.
  • Sells Northern as a brand by using all product knowledge and the Northern name.
  • Ensures customer purchases are processed quickly and accurately at cash register.

Communication

  • Effectively coaches and provides feedback to all Associates on personal productivity measures.
  • Is able to express oneself clearly and confidently with the store team, customers and district.
  • Engages in discussions and expresses opinions with a clear point of view towards winwin outcomes.
  • Provides the Store Manager with ongoing feedback and with solutions to potential problems.
  • Demonstrates open, respectful and courteous communication.

Team Leadership:


  • Recognizes desired behaviours and deals effectively with poor performance situations in the Manager's absence.
  • Leads Sales Associates to achieve sales budgets through positive motivation.
  • Supports corporate philosophies, company values, rules and regulations for a safe and secure workplace.
  • Develops instore contests that effectively support company initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Visual Merchandising/Display:


  • Plans and implements visual directions and layouts.
  • Ensures that store is neat, clean and well presented.
  • Maintains visual presentation standards as per visual manual.
  • Provides feedback to the effectiveness of current visual to the Store Manager.
