Overview of role:

WestJet is currently seeking an Advisor, Marketing for Travel Trade Marketing, to support our Sales Marketing team.

Playing a key role, you will bring your creative and results orientated approach to the role to support our Sales and Marketing targets.

You will develop innovative travel trade campaigns as well as support activities and events that create awareness, invoke agent engagement and drive sales.


Reporting to the Manager, Marketing, Communications and Training, The Travel Trade Marketing Advisor role is accountable for the development and execution of both internal and external agency and corporate partner campaigns and tactical activities supporting the launch of new destinations, routes of need and utilizing marketing funds from our agency partners to achieve our joint targets.

This is a specialist Trade Marketing role, requiring a combination of marketing and technical skills, a very strong understanding of digital marketing that includes website, B2B social, and learning and development tools.

This role requires analytical skills to evaluate how campaigns are performing and to develop testing strategies and optimization plans.

You will work closely and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to develop integrated, multi-channel marketing plan.

This role will support the delivery of WestJet's Strategic Plan and Marketing Objectives.


Key deliverables include:


  • Create, develop, and implement internal and external marketing plans and assets to support revenue targets, projects and WestJet led initiatives
  • Create marketing assets that support awareness and education for the Sales team projects and WestJet led initiatives
  • Lead the content strategy, planning and development of the Travel Agency Resource website (TAR)
  • Collaborate with the other Trade Marketing Advisors to develop full scale marketing and communications campaigns to support WestJet initiatives
  • Lead and deliver agency partner marketing proposals to support revenue targets and drive sales
  • Represent the business unit and work collaboratively with crossfunctional internal teams (Brand, Channel Teams, Design, Digital, Analytics, Guest Communications, Social, Loyalty, Regional Performance Marketing, Revenue Management and Pricing, Network Planning, IT,)
  • Work closely with the Paid Media Channel team on media buying and the internal/external creative agencies to develop creative concepts and paid media plans that are effective, yet impactful
  • Measure, consolidate reporting and communicate on the success of each marketing initiative against documented objectives, campaign KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), etc.
  • React quickly to the actions of our competitors and become an expert at quicktomarket strategies to drive sales
  • Proactively coordinate and liaise with the Manager to ensure timelines are being managed, updates are provided, and proper approvals are obtained
  • Proactively participate in the improvement and troubleshooting of processes as they pertain to Sales Marketing involvement
  • Support Manager on continuous review of competitive analysis, internal and external market research, and act as a business SME regarding airline/tour operator awareness, tactical and trade marketing
  • Share learnings and provide support for team members. Help to provide an environment where you, your team members and your stakeholders can learn continuously
  • Support Manager with the development and fulfillment of agency sales and marketing agreements and other tasks and projects as assigned

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Diploma or Degree in Communications, Marketing, Travel, or a related discipline
  • Exceptional skills in marketing fundamentals including trade marketing, market segmentation, brand management, data analysis and web analytics
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a strategic marketing role in a corporate environment
  • Strong organization and time management skills; proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, rapidly changing priorities in a fastpaced environment and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong skill set in critical thinking, time management and risk assessment is an asset
  • Strong relationship building skills with experience working with various stakeholders (both internal and external)
  • Excellent writing skills with a demonstrated ability to write quickly, succinctly and adapt to varied audiences
  • Travel trade industry experience is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Ex
