    Permanent, Full-time, Year-Round Position

    CDS is situated on a beautiful -acre campus in the Township of King. Reporting to the Assistant Head of Facilities, this position is responsible for ensuring the excellent presentation of all the outdoor areas including lawns, landscaping, trees, trails, natural grass and artificial turf sports fields, soccer dome, tennis courts, track and field facilities, playgrounds, driveways and parking lots.

    The successful candidate will possess excellent time management skills and organizational skills, the ability to establish priorities, multi-task and work independently as well as part of the team. The hours of work are from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the expectation of being on call during the winter months to help remove snow and ensure the safety of all community members at all times.

    Key Responsibilities include:

  • Planting and maintaining flower beds, gardens, trees, shrubs and lawns, by use of powered and/or manual equipment.
  • Watering lawns, trees, gardens and plants, using portable sprinkler systems or hoses and maintaining sprinkler systems.
  • Lawn mowing, pruning, trimming, weeding, reseeding damaged lawn areas, and establishing a composting area.
  • Removing fallen leaves, trees, branches, debris and garbage from around the property.
  • Sweeping and cleaning driveways and parking lots, performing minor repairs to asphalt, concrete and interlock pavers.
  • Lining and maintaining natural and synthetic turf sports fields using specialized equipment.
  • Repairing, replacing and painting fences and railings.
  • Inspecting dome and playgrounds.
  • Maintaining all equipment and maintenance logs.
  • During the winter months, removing snow using plows, blowers and shovels. Spreading salt on roadways, parking lots, walkways and entrances to melt ice and ensure safety of patrons.
  • Driving heavy equipment such as tractor, Trace Loader, and wide area mower to maintain the grounds.
  • Ensuring proper operation of mowers, small equipment, hand tools, and gators by performing minor maintenance.
  • Assisting indoor facilities crew and other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Secondary School Diploma.
  • Certified Grounds Technician status is an asset.
  • A minimum of 3 years practical experience with landscape maintenance, groundskeeping and snow removal.
  • Class D license with a minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Formal training in equipment operation such as loader, tractor, hand push and hand held equipment. Heavy Equipment Operators Certificate and Chainsaw Operators Certificate are assets.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow both written and verbal instructions are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the school's diverse student, parent and staff population.
  • Highly motivated, adaptable, focused and dependable individual.
  • Positive individual with "can-do" attitude.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • WHMIS trained and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are considered an asset.
