Payroll & Benefits Coordinator

Parlee McLaws LLP is a well-established, mid-size, Alberta law firm with over 135 years of experience. We are looking for an experienced
Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to join our team. This role is located at our downtown
Edmonton office.


Position Overview


The schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM (40 hours/week) working with Accounting and HR team members in both our Edmonton and Calgary offices.

This position requires in-office attendance and reports to the Director of Finance.

Your day-to-day will include a multitude of tasks such as:


  • Subject matter expert for payroll inquiries
  • Accurately creating and submitting on time the semimonthly payroll utilizing HRIS
  • Update employee payroll information as required
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports as required
  • Post all payrollrelated activities into Elite/3E no later than payroll payment date
  • Accurately completion of yearend payroll reconciliation and production of required Firm and employee tax documents (T4 balancing and filing) and pension filings
  • Benefits enrolment and maintenance of employee profiles for health & dental, and pension plan, including terminations
  • Benefits Invoice reconciliations for the firm
  • Ongoing communication and training of backup payroll/ benefits person(s)

Requirements:


  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) supplemented with an Accounting certificate or diploma
  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience including payroll and accounts payables experience, preferably in a legal environment
  • Payroll certification (equivalent training and/or experience may be considered)
  • Benefits administration certification is an asset (equivalent training and/or experience may be considered)
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Knowledge of Elite/3E and/or other automated accounting software is an asset (i.e. UKG Pro)
  • Prior experience training and/or coordinating the training of others in accounting software programs is an asset
