Job Summary

Communication is essential for learning and for living well, whether that be through listening, speaking, reading, writing or using augmentative or alternative means.

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide a wide variety of communication-enhancing interventions and supports through their work with individual students, groups of students, and educator teams, both inside and outside the classroom.

Schools provide an ideal environment for SLPs to provide authentic goals that maximize literacy, academic, vocational, and social-emotional success for students.

Through collaboration with students, families, and educators, the school SLP can build communication success for all students in a tiered approach to prevention and intervention, that is good for all and necessary for some.


Key Responsibilities

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, creativity, flexibility, and commitment so that you can translate your superior clinical knowledge of communication disorders into the educational setting in order to improve the lives and educational outcomes for students.

You will provide assessment, intervention, consultation and resource support for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, in regular class and contained class settings, and professional development for others in the school and Board-wide as required.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Demonstrated experience providing speech language services to children, youth and families
  • Proven experience as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of community based speech language services in the Region of Peel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 5 years post graduate experience and previous school board employment as a speech language pathologist preferred
  • A valid driver's license, use of a vehicle and willingness to work within all regions of Peel District School Board
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and environment.
