Major Duties

  • Coordinate the activities of a group of Mechanical and Electrical Assemblers and apprentices involved in the build, coordinating, bench assembly, floor assembly and integration of robotic work cells, automated assemblies and factory automation products in order to ensure that a quality product is built on time, safely and under budget.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration and delegation of work for team members within the Assembly Department according to their skill and experience.
  • Plan work and work to plan.
  • Achieve ontime delivery.
  • Plan to achieve budgets or to be under budget in total labor hours.
  • Plan work to effectively manage overtime to departmental budget requirements.
  • Manage your group to work safely and achieve no lost time accidents.
  • Give your team feedback on projects and personal feedback in regards to performance.
  • Create a team environment and work with your group to be a positive, motivating force. Manage problems (i.e. absenteeism, attitude, workmanship, efficiency, work habits).
  • Train apprentices according to the ATS manufacturing standards and the Machine Tool Builder and Integrator apprenticeship training standards. Delegate work, assigning work as to skills and experience to group members.
  • Submit monthly progress reports as discussed with the Director, Mechanical Assembly.
  • Hold meetings to review objectives/continuous improvement initiatives with your team.
  • Participate in the planning stage of the project with the Project Manager and project team.
  • Attend design review to critique mechanical design for machineability and functionality.
  • Review detail designs prior to release from Engineering for ease of manufacture.
  • Coordinate manufacturing needs through own group and at times with other trades as required.
  • Ensure that ATS standards are met during the assembly process. Advise designers of any potential design problems, coordinating rework if required.

Specific Responsibilities Cont.

  • Responsible for all assembly activities related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization as required.
  • Strictly follow CSA N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the manual and procedures
  • Proceed with floor assembly according to floor plan layout and the component selection form; assembling the job in a safe and proper order according to procedures.
  • Coordinate with electricians, fabricators and PLC programmers to provide their needs which the Toolmakers/Assemblers are responsible for, in a timely manner.
  • Provide the other departments with the tooling needed to accomplish their tasks according to the schedule.
  • Participate in the debug/integration of the line and station start up. Complete the setup checks of stations before the PLC is scheduled to be on the station. Check to see if cycle times are achievable and advise design of potential problems. Run the entire line with group and others if required to check functionality of operator stations, operator interface, loading and unloading areas and guarding for ease of maintenance.
  • Fill out and complete rework accumulation sheets immediately as required.
  • Work with assigned manual writer to instruct special requirements of the line.
  • Provide mechanical support during the duration of debug/integration and acceptance.
  • Manage tear down and shipping of the equipment, dismantling in an orderly fashion to minimize the installation time at customers' site and coordinate these efforts.
  • Select Toolmaker/Assembler to be an ambassador for ATS at the customers' site.
  • Provide a quick and efficient installation of the equipment at customers' site. Follow all safety procedures according to the ATS Health and Safety Manual in addition to following any onsite customer health and safety procedures.
