    Overview

    The prime objective of the Maintenance Supervisor is coordinate and supervise mechanical and mobile maintenance activities to achieve the highest level of quality, safety and effectiveness to maximize equipment availability of plant equipment in compliance with H&S as well as environmental rules and regulations. This position is based out of our Brookfield Cement Plant.

    Responsibilities

    Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communication, improvement and adherence to safety policies on all work environments and with employees, contractors and site visitors.
  • Identify, plan and collaborate with the Environment team for compliance with legislation and policies.
  • Knowledge and support of the cement plant's Heath, Safety and Environment management system including awareness of the specific responsibilities described in the programs.
  • Ensure that any changes to plant equipment are verified by Health, Safety and Environment Managers and other departments to ensure that corporate and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintenance Coordination:

  • Supervise the execution of daily/weekly preventive and corrective maintenance; recommend technical improvements for cost reductions.
  • Create/optimize with own personnel and/or with suppliers innovative techniques and advanced technology procedures to assure the quality of the job and reduce downtime.
  • Maintenance Work Orders Systems:

  • Administrate work order system by generating notifications, closing work orders and recording database and trends.
  • Optimize efficiency of completed work orders. Collaborate with planning team to balance the workload for each week of the year.
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings as well as in major shut-down meetings to coordinate jobs with other departments.
  • Maintenance Facilities & Mobile Equipment:

  • Ensure the proper storage of lubricants and cleanliness of the warehouse maintenance shop, mobile equipment maintenance shop and tool room; manage inventory levels of key parts and supplies.
  • Guarantee the proper inspection, condition and control of mobile equipment, machines and tools.
  • Contractors Management:

  • Plan and coordinate work carried out by third parties.
  • Oversees third party work in order to support maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates meetings with suppliers to check new/innovative developments or new techniques available to optimize the workload and the equipment.
  • Budget & Cost Control:

  • Support the Maintenance Manager in the elaboration and control of the maintenance budget.
  • People management:

  • Monitor performance of maintenance crew.
  • Develop and motivate its team, ensuring competencies and skills development according to technical innovations, plant or personal needs.
  • Plan trainings and coach the maintenance team on maintenance best practices.
  • Time administration of maintenance crew.
  • Capex & Engineering Projects:

  • Provide assistance in the mechanical design and execution of plant projects.
  • Relationship with Others:

  • Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Works closely with various managers and supervisors who influence and/or manage the overall maintenance of the plant.
  • Specific Accountabilities:

  • Safety: Daily Huddles, FLRA's, HI's, VPC, Near Miss, Safety Inspections, Safety Meetings, Plant Pride.
  • Plant Maintenance KPI's: Follow and optimize the Main Equipment KPIs, Maintenance System KPI's.
  • Labor: Crew Schedules, People Development and Management. Engagement survey results.
  • Customer Focus: Maintenance Impact in Shipping & Quality KPI's
  • Financial: Maintenance cost compared to budget and third party service cost analysis.
  • Must be able to work Monday to Friday 07:30 – 16:00 Hrs. Also, this role will be on-call to provide support for the plant on weekends or holidays; this is on a rotating basis with other members of the Maintenance team.
  • Must participate in all contractual, legislative or corporately mandated training.

  • Qualification Profile

    Education & Work Experience:

  • Journeyman - Mechanical Trade preferred (Or Higher)
  • Minimum of five years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the cement or heavy manufacturing industry; and at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (i.e. Pareto Analysis, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)

  • Physical Demands of the Role:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs & ladders, reach with hands and arms, work in awkward situations, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must be trained and comfortable with Working at heights and Confined Spaces
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.
  • Employees must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment. Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hardhat. Additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks.
