The Role

Develops preventive maintenance schedules and work plans for transit technology products and systems, specifically automated transit on-board and in-field equipment.

Coordinates the implementation of transit technology projects related to the maintenance or update/expansion of transit technology. Analyzes maintenance and life-cycle costs, and equipment performance against expected timelines and reliability targets, and prepares reports for management.

  • Duties/Responsibilities
Develops and monitors preventive maintenance programs for on-board and in-field transit technology systems. Assists management with project planning and work scheduling. Develops project/work plans, installation designs, work schedules/timelines, and resource requirements.

  • Provides technical, research, and troubleshooting support to ensure system functionality, integration, and quality control testing. Liaises with corporate ITS, vendors, and contractors to resolve software/hardware limitations, defects, and time and resource constraints.
  • Monitors and tracks project progress and performance in relation to standards. Discusses and resolves issues with vendors/contractors. Escalates issues to management as needed.
  • Analyzes maintenance and lifecycle costs. Analyzes and monitors equipment performance in relation to expected uptime and reliability targets. Prepares reports for management.
  • Tracks equipment/product information in database.
  • Assists with infield or invehicle installations, maintenance, and repairs as needed. Escalates complex problems to contractors/vendors for support, and notifies management.
  • Inspects products and equipment to ensure they are received in good condition, contacts vendors for replacements.
  • Works with Section staff (e.g., technologists, mechanics) to exchange information, provide technical assistance and recommendations, and troubleshoot equipment installations.
  • Liaises with contractors for project updates and to ensure work is completed per specifications. Works with vendors to obtain technical assistance and product information, and identify/resolve hardware and software installation issues. Contacts corporate stores for parts and supplies. Orders parts and supplies from vendors and has a purchasing card.
  • Participates on departmental and project committees.
  • Backs up technologists in the Section, as required.
  • Assists with other Transit Maintenance projects and initiatives as needed.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and skill acquired through a 3-year degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., Project Management, Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Engineering, Electronics), plus 3 year of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).


  • Knowledge of and ability to follow corporate policies and procedures.
  • Organization, problemsolving, and analytical skills to develop and recommend project plans and schedules; track and report on performance metrics and trends; calculate lifecycle costs; and coordinate project elements and schedules to meet deadlines.

Communication skills to obtain, clarify, and exchange technical information with vendors, contractors, and other staff installing and maintaining equipment; and participate as an effective team member.

Ability to read and understand technical manuals, work plans, contract terms, agreements, policies, and procedures. Ability to write project plans, schedules, and correspondence.

  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, and an integrated fleet management computer system.
Must have a valid G driver's license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) to operate corporate vehi
