Description

GFL Environmental is looking for Sorters to clean contaminates off the sort line in accordance to the specifications as outlined for the sorting area as assigned.

This position will be based out of our Winnipeg facility.


Key Responsibilities:

Remain at appropriate work stations at all times during equipment operations.
Ensure that material is picked off or left on the process line as instructed.
Ensure that material flow is kept and any issues be brought to the Supervisor's attention.
Work stations are to be kept clean of all debris. Ensure the area around work station is kept in an orderly manner.
Follow all procedures with regard to hazardous material found on the line. Report all such occurrences to supervisor immediately.
Assist in the cleaning of the facility as needed and instructed by Supervisor.
Communicate with Senior Management, administrative, supervisory and plant staff as required.
Provide and/or participate in training as required.
Comply with company rules, federal and provincial regulations as well.


Physical/Mental Demands:

Job will require climbing stairs to get to work stations
Maybe require to lift containers up 30 lbs. item over must be done in with assistance.
Temperature - dress according to the weather as there is no climate control at work station.
Noise - Hearing protection will be provided to you and must be worn.
Dusty environment - when using a dust masks they must be worn properly at all times
Ergonomic issues - strains could result from work station design. Speak to your supervisor with regards to "stands" to use while working and discuss any discomforts you may experience. Do not add any layers to the stand such as carpets or mats.
Repetitive motion injuries could occur. Stretching prior to your shift start can help to prevent these types of injuries.
Conveyor belts could cause "pinch hazards". Machine guards have been installed to protect workers. If you notice a loose/missing machine guard, notify your supervisor immediately
Eye injuries could occur due to various items on the sort line come back at the employee. Safety glasses must be worn at all times.
Forklifts/bobcats are a hazard when traveling throughout the plant. Be aware of your surroundings and always wear high visibility clothing. Do not proceed until you have confirmation that the operator has seen you.
Trip hazards are present in your workstation and throughout the plant. Be sure to keep your workstation clean and neat at all times and do not use non-approved stands
