JOB SUMMARY:

Review and approve laboratory work. Perform detailed analysis of samples from pollution control plants, water plants, industries and legal samples. Schedule, coordinate, and assign laboratory work. Act as the contact person in the lab who deals with all inquiries and exchanges information. Develop and implement standard operating procedures and new methods for analysis performed in the lab. Order lab supplies and participate in the purchases of new lab instruments.

Assist in the selection of co-op students, and is responsible for the completion of performance appraisals of the co-op student.


QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION:


  • Completion of a 3year diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience to acquire a practical understanding of equipment, analysis, and tests.
  • Must have and maintain a certification with a chemistryrelated organization such as the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologist (OACETT) or hold a chemistryrelated designation such as the designation of Certified Chemist (C. Chem.).
  • Must maintain a current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), as well as Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Documentation.

SKILLS:


  • Must be capable of performing the physical requirements of the job.
  • Must be able to work without supervision, as well as be able to direct others doing similar work.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Crystal Reports, as well as the proprietary software that operates the analytical chemical analysis instruments.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:


  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • It is the employee's responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restrictionfree driver's license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job.
