Our Team:

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years.

With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.


Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.


The Opportunity
The incumbent is accountable for procuring both goods and services on behalf of the Company.

Will oversee executing and managing contracts as well as creation of the purchase document, acting as the link between the Company, its business equivalents and projects.

The Analyst will ensure that the Company gains the most benefit from every contract and transaction.

The incumbent is responsible for the completion of key milestones/objectives, deliverables, etc. to minimize commercial risks.

Responsible for coordinating the accurate development/execution of the project procurement plans (PEP) to incorporate in contracts as per PEP strategy to enhance competitive advantage and to meet Project expectations.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Establish and implement projectspecific procurement strategies.
  • Leading RFPs for Goods and Services Agreements
  • Conduct a prequalification process of prospective bidders. Analysis of prequalification forms, recommend and obtain approval of proponent's lists.
  • Prepare and launch the Requests for Proposals.
  • Receive proposals, proceed with the commercial analysis and manage internal and external communication.
  • Review exceptions to Terms and Conditions with Legal (others) prior to Agreement finalization.
  • Conduct a complete commercial evaluation including Total Cost of Ownership Analysis, Productivity Analysis
  • Lead negotiations with proponents before award and draft the recommendation for award.
  • Ensure that all awards are drafted to incorporate supplier / contractor obligations to owner and mitigation of risk as much as possible.
  • Ensure awards meet quality, compliance, legal, ethical and safety standards.
  • Prepare and issue contract documents for signature with the input from other project functions.
  • Conduct handover meetings to the Project representatives, ensuring that all team members are conversant with owner and Supplier/contractor obligations as stipulated in the award.
  • Handle the change management process.
  • Handle Contract amendments; negotiating requests for amendments; claims and litigation, if necessary: Commercial closeout of order/contract, if any decommits required.
  • Provide timely and effective communication of issues to the Procurement Leader.
  • Manage key suppliers in the region and develop the business relationship for specific products/services.
  • Other duties as required to ensure that the project is completed to the standard required by Vale or as requested by the Procurement Leader.

About You

Education**:

  • College/Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business or Commerce
  • SCMP certification is an asset.

  • Procurement experience is an asset.
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Professional
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous background/experience in negotiations
