  • As a Department Consultant you will support the Manager of Service Excellence and work as a team member in the General Manager's Office to fulfill the complex and evolving strategic and business needs. Community Services connects and protects diverse individuals, communities, and businesses through strategies, education, programs, services, enforcement, and emergency response directly and through partners.

Primary duties include:

  • Triage and investigate emerging issues, make connections to strategic initiatives that span across the corporation and collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for synergies, particularly in corporate public safety work.
  • Assist and, in some cases, manage reports and presentations to Committee and Council.
  • Provide strategic support to the General Manager and senior leadership to advance departmental priorities, including projects that could impact structure, budgets, and services.
  • Coordinate, advise and, in some cases, lead Community Services involvement and response to corporate initiatives, processes and reporting related to Service Plans & Budgets and other initiatives, acting as a main conduit between corporate groups and Community Services leadership, which regularly requires access to confidential information.

Qualifications

  • A degree in social science, public administration or a related field with at least 8 years of progressive public service experience in policy and program development, project management, strategic planning OR
  • A graduate degree in social science, public administration, business or a related field with at least 4 years of public service experience in policy and program development, project management, strategic planning.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in leading complex programs, working directly with and advising senior management, and facilitating leadership conversations.
  • The ability to plan, prepare and present complex reports and presentations will be considered assets.
  • A collaborative team player with demonstrated success in leading change, developing metrics to improve organizational performance, deploying resources to achieve effective and efficient outcomes, and establishing and maintaining strong and positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and/or elected officials.
  • Success in this position requires political acumen skills, strategic and critical thinking as well as creative problemsolving skills.

This position works a 5 day
-work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
