What is The Outland Youth Employment Program?


The Outland Youth Employment Program is a national network of innovative education, training and work opportunities for Indigenous youth that includes our award winning six-week land-based summer program.

OYEP wrap around support services are available across the country and summer-based programs are currently available in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.

OYEP has worked towards equity and opportunity for Indigenous youth and communities since 2000.

The OYEP Western Operations Coordinator is a member of the WAFES West Management Team. The OYEP Operations Coordinator is a highly valued, primary representative for Outland - Horizon North. This position is based out of Ave SW, at the Edmonton, Horizon North office. This position will support and coordinate programs in Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. The programs run throughout July and August, with recruitment and community outreach throughout the year; travel is required.

This position is dependent on successful funding and partnership targets met, at which case the position can be expanded to meet the needs of the program.

The OYEP Operations Coordinator will work with management team members across Canada while enabling support functions on all aspects of the Outland Youth Employment Program


Responsibilities will include:

  • Seasonal staff and youth hiring and onboarding during project startup including outreach/career fairs, community and youth engagement, youth and staff contracts, and completing employee internal profiles; this will include in person engagement which will require travel
  • Familiarizing with internal financial processes for year round operations;
  • Supporting all OYEP pre and post season logistics including coordinating with program partners (public, private and Indigenous) to develop curriculum and programming, support all aspects of Science Week, coordinate youth and staff travel, support fleet management and any other logístical requirements as they occur; building schedules; Booking trainers, accommodations, and vehicles
  • Fundraising and identifying and securing funding opportunities for the successful execution of programs and projects including but not limited to Government, private industry, communities, and other organizations
  • Facilitating the creation and maintenance of relationships with all new and existing partnerships included but not limited Government, private industry, communities, and other organizations
  • Managing preseason cooperative education granting with program partners including following up with youth and associated educational institutions to ensure all transcripts/credit counselling summaries are properly received and filed;
  • Assist OYEP social media accounts including gathering and vetting relevant information, posting on social media accounts, responding to comments and requests via social media;
  • Organizing and inventorying camp equipment
  • Assist with reporting related requests;
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in humanities or project management, youth programming, Indigenous Relations, Education or a related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years of coordination experience and working with a team in a related field;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written);
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record
