Health and Safety Accessibility Coordinator - Bradford, Canada - Gwillimdale Farms Ltd.
Description
Duties:
- Responsible for monitoring the adherence to the Company health and safety program by all employees, agency workers, contractors, and visitors within the workplace.
- Monitor regulatory changes and proactively build or revise programs to address changing requirements.
- Cochair the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). Ensure that the JHSC is in place and operating as required by law, including the nomination/recruitment of members, certification of management and employee representatives, members receive committee training, and that meeting minutes are appropriately recorded, shared, and posted.
- Conduct/coordinate with JHSC the monthly workplace inspections and maintain records; participate directly in spot audits and develop plans to address any issues identified or prepare notices for management to correct identified hazards.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to health and safety concerns raised from various sources (e.g., managers/supervisors, employees, JHSC, and MOL inspectors). Assist the appropriate department manager and HR to address and resolve health and safety inspection orders.
- Partner with department managers on injury/accident/incident reporting to ensure proper reporting has been completed and corrective actions have been implemented.
- Assist with WSIB claims management. Partner with department managers and HR to create and communicate returntowork plans. Monitor and meet with modified workers to ensure a safe and timely return to preinjury duties.
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety and hazardous materials policies and procedures throughout the Company in compliance with regulations.
- Develop/maintain health and safety training content and materials (e.g., health and safety related policies and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, WHMIS, lockout tag out) for employee new hire/refresher training. Present health and safetyrelated training as required.
- Coordinate and schedule worker training with external vendors as required (e.g., working at heights, elevated work platforms, forklifts, first aid and CPR, etc.).
- Maintain health and safety boards, first aid log binders, and SDS binders.
- Coordinate with external vendors monitor and replenish first aid kits. Maintain personal protective equipment program and inventory.
- Assist maintenance with monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
- Conduct and document risk assessments related to jobs (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation to management.
- Assist and be involved in the review of new operations, processes, and procedures (as well as proposed changes to existing operations) at the proposal and/or design phase to ensure health and safety matters are considered and incorporated.
- Create, maintain and implement standard operating procedures for health and safety
- Make recommendations regarding safety initiatives. Maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
- Responsible for coordinating and leading the organization toward the Company's response and compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Oversee the implementation of accessibility standards for the organization and disseminating any updates and training regarding any changes
- Ensure compliance with upcoming legislation and fulfilling
- Make recommendations regarding accessibility initiatives. Maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
- Complete other duties and projects for the human resources department as assigned by the human resources manager.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, disability, human resources, or a related field is an asset.
- CRSP, CHSC or similar health and safety professional designation is an asset.
- Part 1 and 2 Joint Health and Safety Committee Member Certification is an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR training is an asset.
- Valid Ontario G driver's license is required.
- Minimum 35 years of progressive experience within a safety role in an agriculture, manufacturing or similar environment is required.
Abilities:
- Ability to walk the premises, plant floor and office and drive to nearby farm locations is required.
- Ability to travel periodically to coincide with Gwillimdale North operations (New Liskeard, Ontario).
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stair climbing and lifting.
- Personal protective equipment required in the plant and on the farm (e.g., steel toe footwear).
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Decisive, team player, and be able to work well under pressure.
- Highly motivated individual with proven initiative.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Human Rights, Accessibility and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act is required.
