The Opportunity:


As a professional and a technical expert, you will lead a team of skilled professional and technical staff in a variety of planning projects.

While working collaboratively with other McElhanney branches in a strong team environment, the Division Manager will also be responsible for contributing to branch and regional strategic planning, controlling division budgets and scopes, as well as development of new and existing business, marketing of the branch's services, and liaising with clients on project matters.

What You'll Be Doing:


  • Lead the planning practice in the region and coordinate with planning teams in other branches to ensure excellent project delivery
  • Lead business development opportunities with new, existing, and key clients
  • Actively develop strategic partnerships with clients, project stakeholders, various levels of government and subconsultants
  • Contribute to the branch budget development and achieve financial KPI's and targets
  • Supervise and mentor junior planning staff to assist with professional development and foster an engaged culture with strong technical capabilities
  • Conduct performance management and facilitate the development of employee learning plans. Establish effective talent acquisition and retention plan
  • Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney's positive public profile
  • Nurture existing and develop new strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners
  • Ensure the division has the right people, in the right positions, doing the right things; aligned perfectly to fulfill our company purpose:

What You'll Bring:


  • 10+ years community planning experience, preferably with a background in consulting
  • Master's Degree in urban planning, urban design, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven excellence in creative problem solving and solution implementation
  • Ability to prepare and execute Communications and Public Engagement strategies
  • Ability to plan and manage multidisciplinary teams across branches and regions
  • An indepth understanding of provincial planning legislation, particularly the Local Government Act and Community Charter, and a willingness to learn surrounding local government policies and bylaw requirements
  • The ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team and work well in a team environment
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to function in a high volume, challenging environment
  • Demonstrated success in business development and fostering longterm client relationships
