Shift Rad Protection & Safety Technician.

  • Reporting to the Radiation Protection Work Coordination Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing technical expertise in the area of health physics, radiation protection, and safety issues as they relate to the workplace, including workplace hazards.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG's public outreach, engagement, and education efforts as part of the company's commitment to growing its social license.
    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new testing procedures and methods for radiological and dosimetry analyses.
  • Assist line management in the implementation of local and corporate programs relative to concerns regarding health physics, radiation protection, health and safety issues, and emergency preparedness and response plans. Collect, compile and assess information as necessary to prepare reports.
  • Be accountable for the health, safety and well being of self and others, in accordance with technical/ operating procedures and standards, including the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of operating assigned equipment and systems. Perform basic maintenance on related equipment.
  • Carry out a variety of measurements including inspection, maintenance and testing of health physics, radiation protection and conventional safety equipment and processes to recognized standards and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a reporting system to provide feedback for controlling work, materials, costs and other purposes.
  • Maintain specific Radiation Protection (RP) programs such as licensed source control. Provide RP technical assistance and troubleshooting to internal and external personnel. Carry out or participate in the development and implementation of programs related to RP. Perform field inspections and surveys to ensure compliance with policies, practices and procedures. Carry out or participate in investigations of incidents/accidents.
  • Participate in commissioning activities associated with new or modified equipment and instruments, and with plant modifications.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of health physics, radiation protection, and conventional safety issues as they relate to the workplace, including workplace hazards, and to the environment. Carry out both nonstandard and special tests and analyses, associated with health physics, radiation protection, hazardous material identification, and associated monitoring processes.
  • Receive, package, prepare and ship radioactive material, in accordance with Part 6 of the Transportation of Dangerous goods Regulations.

EDUCATION

  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent, plus three years of study in a related field. Three years of study in a related field may be substituted by obtaining NRRPT Certification (National Registry for Radiation Protection Technologists).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference to applicants with Class 7 Shipper qualification
  • Work as part of a team in a fast paced, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines and expected high level of detail.
  • Have exceptional problemsolving abilities.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Days based position, but flexibility required to work afternoons and weekends as necessary.
  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
