ByWard Family Health (BWFHT), formerly University of Ottawa Health Services (UOHS), offers a comprehensive range of services to the University of Ottawa students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

BWFHT operates busy clinics open to University of Ottawa students, faculty and staff, other patients registered to a BWFHT family physician as well as members of the general public.

We are currently looking for a Full Time Clinical Assistant to provide direct patient care in a clinical setting and perform work as required under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient flow through the clinic waiting room, exam room.
  • Triage patients for their appointment as per the triage protocol.
  • Measure vital signs on each patient as per Triage Guidelines and record in electronic medical record.
  • Maintain electronic medical records and document accurately as per Triage Guidelines.
  • Clean and sterilize materials and instruments following instrument reprocessing standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare examination rooms; select, setup and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, physicians and reception staff to promote efficient clinic functioning and quality of patient experience.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings as requested.
  • Participate in staff development programs and promote team cohesiveness.

Essential Qualifications

  • Completion of a college program or other specialized courses for medical administration required or a combination of training and experience
  • Previous experience as a health care aide in a healthcare environment.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fastpaced clinical environment.
  • Bilingual (French and English) is a must.
  • Computer literacy: MS Word, Outlook, EMR and Internet.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
