Job description

This project focuses on summarizing and clearly explaining a research study that examined how dogs redistribute weight when experiencing forelimb lameness.

The study used adult Beagles in which a temporary, controlled forelimb lameness was induced. Ground reaction forces were measured using force plates while the dogs walked and trotted. The primary variables analyzed included Peak Vertical Force (PVF) and Vertical Impulse (VI).

Key findings to highlight:
The lame forelimb showed a significant decrease in weight-bearing.

The contralateral (sound) forelimb compensated by carrying increased load.

Both hindlimbs also showed increased loading, particularly the hindlimb diagonal to the lame forelimb.

Asymmetries were more pronounced during trotting compared to walking.

Trotting proved to be more sensitive for detecting lameness-related changes.

The summary should clearly explain:
How load redistribution occurs biomechanically

The difference between walking and trotting compensation patterns

The clinical relevance for veterinary orthopedics and rehabilitation

Why force plate analysis is considered a gold standard for objective lameness assessment

Contract duration of less than 1 month.
