Role Overview:

The overnight PSSW-Common Area oversees the program ensuring the safety, security and wellbeing for all service users.

The overnight PSSW participates in supporting the meal program, household management, including pest control preparation in the common areas and office; supporting unit safety checks and supporting personal care need requests, if required.


About the Team:

Recruiting an experienced Personal Support Service Worker (PSSW) to work at our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Collegeview Program. Collegeview is a supportive housing program operating out of an apartment in the Yonge St. /College St. area of downtown Toronto.

This program provides rent-geared-to-income accommodation and supports to adults living with an ABI requiring various levels of physical, cognitive, and behavioral support.

Service users reside in their own apartments and share a communal kitchen, dining area and lounge.

The goal of the program is to assist service users to live well within their community in a supported environment.

This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) and other individual goals so that they can maintain their housing and lead productive lives within the community.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • The PSSW will be trained in medication management and have the authorization to provide as needed medication (PRN's) as required and /or directed.
  • The overnight PSSW will take an active role in supporting the meal program, assisting with the preparation work required to support the breakfast, lunch and dinner for the following day. This is an integral component of this role.
  • The overnight PSSW will partner with the PSSW (1:1) on site and provide support as needed. This includes providing 1:1 service user support coverage during breaks, and/or as required.
  • In addition, The PSSW will receive guidance and direction related to the meal program needs from the Supportive Housing Workers implementing the menu planning.
  • A minimum of high School Diploma
    required
:


  • Certification as a PSW or Health Care Aide
    required.**:
  • Ability to provide and support personal care needs "ADL's "(Toileting, bathing, safe lifts and transfers, assisting with feeding as needed)
    required

  • Instrumental activities of daily living "IADLs" such as but not limited too: household management, cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, community escorts,
    required
:


  • Ability to lift 1025 lbs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ABI symptoms and strategies

  • Demonstrated understanding of Epilepsy,
    preferred
:


  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
    preferred

  • Basic computer literacy (Word, Email, Internet)

  • Good judgment, sound problem solving skills,

  • The ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others,

  • Demonstrated clientcentered and customer focus approach,

  • Sensitive to challenges experienced by marginalized groups such as poverty, accessibility issues, mental health and Acquired Brain Injury,

  • Valid Crisis Prevention and Intervention Certificate (CPI), First Aid/CPR Certificate, ASSIST and Safe Food Handling Certificate preferred,

  • Experience working with clients with an intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, as well as behavioural challenges,
    preferred

  • Mental health and/or addiction experience is an asset preferred.
