    ITINERANT TEACHER FOR DEAF/HARD OF HEARING

    1 FTE (1 Position)

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The successful candidate will report to the Superintendent, Special Education Services. The Itinerant Teacher for Deaf/Hard of Hearing will be responsible for assessment and support of students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, collaboration with the Educational Audiologist to support implementation and use of equipment and technology, supporting educators and paraprofessionals in understanding and accommodating needs of students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing to promote student success and well-being.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge of the Ontario Curricula and the flexibility/ability to work within a range of grade areas

    Knowledge of Alternative Curricula for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, i.e. language development, articulation, and auditory skills development

    Knowledge of and experience in working with personal and classroom amplification systems

    Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience, an asset

    Successful experience when dealing with students with multiple exceptionalities, an asset

    Strong interpersonal skills when dealing with parents and professionals

    Strong organizational and record keeping skills

    Certification as a Certified Language and Speech Learning Specialist Auditory Verbal Educator (Cert. LSLS AVed), an asset

    Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is an asset

    Certificate of Qualification

    Teaching Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (Part 1, Part 2 and/or Specialist)
