JOB SUMMARY

:


The Special Operations, Training & Logistics Branch of the Paramedic Service is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of paramedic specialty teams, including tactical, CBRNE, bike, marine and critical care; the Community Paramedicine Program; training and development of internal staff as well as external stakeholders; research proposals related to patient care or paramedic operations; and the provision of logistics, vehicle and equipment maintenance/stocking, cleaning and repair, facility management and general administrative/financial services to support a performance-based environment and the effective functioning of the Branch.


You are responsible for sanitizing and processing medical equipment, supplies and vehicles to maximize Paramedic Service resource availability and ensure appropriate quality assurance and improvement for related items, in accordance with provincial standards and City of Ottawa policies and procedures, prior to and/or during vehicle assignment to shifts.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

:

Completion of Grade 12


Minimum of 1 year of related work experience handling emergency type equipment as well as some work experience with the assembly and disassembly of equipment, preferably medical equipment.


KNOWLEDGE

:


  • Methods and techniques of carrying out routine, deep and specialized sanitizing of vehicles and equipment
  • Inventory control techniques
  • Ottawa Base Hospital Policy and Procedures for Sanitizing and Disinfection of Advanced Life Support Equipment
  • City of Ottawa Equipment Maintenance Policy
  • City of Ottawa Paramedic Service Vehicle and Equipment Cleaning Policy and other related policies
  • Ministry of Health policies, procedures, guidelines and specifications related to ambulance equipment supplies, vehicles stocking, sanitizing and maintenance
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and related regulations
  • Basic preventative maintenance methods for vehicles and equipment
  • Performance based principles
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

:


  • Operate/drive Paramedic Service vehicles
  • Work closely with other Paramedic Service staff to identify opportunities for improvement and participate in a coordinated approach to delivering Paramedic Services
  • Accurately check and resupply medical equipment and supplies
  • Perform preventative maintenance and identify problems
  • Use a computer (basic keyboarding skills) for data entry
  • Maximize vehicle and equipment turnaround
  • Expeditious thorough, neat and meticulous in carrying out the work
  • Lift heavy equipment, including stretchers
  • Work rotating 12 hour shifts
  • Be in good physical health and able to lift weights, as prescribed by the work

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with 0 demerit points accumulated.
  • You will initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
