About the Protection Service


Our mission is to enhance security, develop alternative modes of transportation, ensure respect for the rights of the university community and protect the assets of the University and its community.


Position Purpose:
As a Security Guard, Campus Community Protection, you will:

  • Ensure the safety and protection of individuals and University property by patrolling grounds and buildings.
  • Interact with and provide initial support to persons experiencing mental health crises.
  • Liaise with community and law enforcement partners to solve recurring issues.
  • Build strong relationships with students, teachers and support staff.
  • Prevent and detect security hazards and enforce both criminal and provincial statutes, as well as city bylaws and University regulations.
  • Perform preliminary and followup investigations, draft notes and complete reports detailing observations and information received.
  • At the request of the onduty Team Coordinator, help train and evaluate new employees.

What you will bring:

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Great communication skills in both official languages (will be tested).
  • Experience working with the general public.
  • Experience working with the public in conflict situations.
  • Keen ability to work in a team.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and be committed to working in a teambased environment with a focus on continuous improvement and quality customer service.

You must have:

  • Ontario Security Guard License
  • First Aid, CPR and Oxygen administration
  • A valid Ontario driver's license with Abstract and Police check clearance.

Considered an asset:

  • Holding both Security Guard License and Private Investigator License.
  • Knowledge of the Use of Force Continuum and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
  • Smart Serve Certification
  • Knowledge of security practices, terminology, and understanding of relevant regulations.
  • Must have strong problemsolving skills and be able to multitask and work with multiple individuals at the same time.
